Portraits on Landscapes

2025

The perceptual experience of exploring digital terrains eventually converged with the act of observing portrait images on social media. The faces of youth that circulate online, like map imagery, are often fragmentary and prone to distortion. As I layered these portraits onton painted maps, I began to imagine the lives and futures of these individuals - beyond the limits of a single image. This body of work is a painterly experiment where landscape and figure, place and identity, exterior and interior intersect. By placing luminous halos and radiant rings around each subject, I offer a quiet tribute to their presence and potential, while filling in the gap between erased terrains and fragmented portraits.
